SailTracker Sailor is a race tracking app for sailors. The app collects location data (including background location when enabled) to track a boat during a race and send tracks to the SailTracker backend.

Data We Collect

Depending on how you use the app, we may collect:

• Location data
  • Foreground location (while the app is in use)
  • Background location (while tracking is active, if you grant “Always/Background” permissions)
• App usage/diagnostic data (limited)
  • Basic device/app information needed for troubleshooting (e.g. app version)
• Sailor login code / boat identifiers
  • A 4-digit sailor code is used to authenticate and associate tracks with a boat/race.

Why We Collect Data

• To provide core functionality: track your boat’s position and send GPS tracks to the race system.
• To improve reliability and support (limited diagnostics).

How Data Is Used & Shared

• Tracks and related identifiers are sent to the SailTracker backend configured by EXPO_PUBLIC_API_BASE_URL.
• We do not sell personal data.
• Data may be accessible to race organizers and authorized administrators operating the SailTracker system.

Data Storage & Retention

• The app may temporarily store unsent tracks locally on your device to handle offline scenarios.
• Backend retention depends on race/organizer policies.

Your Choices

• You can stop tracking at any time in the app.
• You can revoke location permissions in your device settings.
